Fall is coming, and you can almost smell the scent of apple cider in the air as Huntersville prepares. Before fall gets here in full force, make sure you clear your calendar, because Huntersville offers many interesting things to do in September and October. Here are some of the best!
Carolina Raptor Center Animal Encounters
Enjoy Raven Rendezvous, Hawk Hangout or Vulture Venture at the Carolina Raptor Center on September 4. At the Raven Rendezvous, you can learn more about the smartest birds at the raptor center, and then experience a painting session with one of the center’s artists, with a painting to take home. Participants will also learn what it takes to train these smart birds. At Vulture Venture, walk through the Center with a vulture and trainer during a daily training session. See what it takes to get Bonsai ready for his flight show responsibilities and learn about positive reinforcement training, as well as vulture conservation efforts. Hawk Hangout gives you the chance to watch the flight training experience and get an up close experience with the center’s raptors. Each of these promises to be educational, thrilling and monumental.
Taste of Birkdale
On September 11, head to Birkdale Village for the annual Taste of Birkdale food festival. Enjoy wine tasting, live music, food trucks and many specials from Birkdale’s restaurants and dessert shops while exploring the district. All proceeds from the event go towards Lake Norman Hospice and Palliative Care.
Carolina Renaissance Festival
Starting October 1 and running through November 20, the Carolina Renaissance Festival celebrates 16th century European entertainment and history in raucous style. Outdoor theater, arts and crafts, jousting, feasting and circus acts will take place every Saturday and Sunday through the fall. Try your hand at old-fashioned games, feast on a turkey leg or enjoy the antics of the actors while you explore the 20 acres of displays, entertainment and shopping. There’s so much to see, you may need to plan two weekends to explore it all.
Folk Life Festival
On November 5 from 10-4, head to the historic Latta Plantation home at 5225 Sample Road for the Folk Life Festival. See the work of local artists and crafters, tour the plantation grounds, museum and farm buildings and get some of your holiday shopping done with the unique gift items for sale at this popular event.
